Prototypes & product parts

Prototypes, 3D printed in Rexburg

Hold your design in your hands before you commit to manufacturing. Send us your CAD file and we'll print it for fit checks, mockups, and early testing.

Gears and a bracket printed as a product prototype

What we prototype

From first idea to fit check

Good for inventors, small shops, makers, and engineering students.

Fit & form checks

Make sure parts line up, fasten together, and feel right in the hand before you pay for tooling.

Product mockups

Show investors, customers, or your team a real object instead of a rendering.

Concept models

Test size, proportion, and grip early, while changes are still cheap.

Enclosures & cases

Cases for low-voltage electronics like microcontroller projects and sensors.

Jigs & fixtures

Holders, guides, and alignment tools for your shop or workbench.

Small batches

A handful of copies for testing. Printing several at once usually lowers the cost per part.

How it works

From CAD file to prototype

  1. 1

    Export your file

Export your design as an STL, 3MF, or STEP file at real-world size. Note any dimensions that are critical.

  2. 2

    Get a quote

Fill out the quote form, then reply to our email with the file. You'll get a price and a date before anything prints.

  3. 3

    Print and pick up

We print it in PLA unless you've requested another material, and you pick it up in Rexburg or ask about delivery.

Straight answers

What we don't print

Prototypes are a great fit for 3D printing, but we don't print:

  • Firearms, firearm parts, or other weapon components
  • Parts for medical, structural, or safety-critical use
  • Enclosures for mains-voltage wiring, like outlet or power supply housings

Unless we agree otherwise in writing, prints are for general, non-critical use.

Prototype FAQ

Questions about prototypes

What file types can I send?
STL and 3MF files are ideal, and we can also work with STEP and OBJ. Export at real-world size and tell us whether your file is in millimeters or inches.
How accurate are 3D printed parts?
Usually within a fraction of a millimeter, depending on the material, shape, and size of the part. That's close, but it isn't machining precision, so leave a little clearance where parts fit together and tell us up front if a dimension is critical.
What material will my prototype be printed in?
PLA. It holds detail well and is stiff enough for most fit checks and mockups. If your prototype needs to handle heat, flexing, or heavy use, you can request PETG, TPU, or ASA as a Custom print. See our PLA page for its limits.
Can you design my prototype for me?
Yes, as a Custom print. We can model it from a sketch, photo, or measurements, and Custom includes one round of test-fit revisions.
Can you print more than one?
Yes. Printing several copies at once usually lowers the cost per part, so tell us the quantity when you ask for a quote.
